Description

What is a Thangka painting?
The Tibetan word Thangka means an unfolding painting, where the word Thang stands for an unfolding scroll and Ka means a painting. Thangka paintings, as a whole, are a visual representation of Buddhist deities, scenes, or mandalas, painted on silk or cotton canvas.

In Ritual Thangka, we provide a collection of a variety of Thangka paintings. Every one of our paintings has been hand-picked by our curators. We take great care in scrutinizing all aspects, from the quality of the thangka cloth to its composition, so that you get only the finest quality paintings.

Old Thangka Painting of Shakyamuni Buddha was originally hand-painted on a cotton canvas and then mounted on a brocade

Size with brocade : 24" (width) x 34"(height)
Size of Canvas : 15" (width) x 23"(height)

Materials: Hand-stretched Cotton Canvas, pigments, flower brocade.

We have had this Thangka in our collection for over 30 years now. This thangka was stored away for several years. We just very recently decided to showcase our vintage thangka collection on platforms such as Etsy. We were thrilled to discover the quality and depth of these beautiful thangkas when we unveiled them and decided to showcase them online for everyone. In early 2000 we changed our company name from J.B.Art Center to Ritual Thanka and focused primarily on collecting and selling thangka paintings. Due to Covid 19, we have had to change our business strategy and focus more on online platforms. We hope the aesthetics of these vintage statues brings a deep sense of happiness to your hearts.

Ritual Thanka of Tibet is an institution with an experience of over three decades in dealing with Tibetan Thankas and Newari Paubhas .We at Ritual Thanka of Tibet explore not only the spiritual side of this unique form of art but it’s aesthetic side too which has been one of the means to exhibit Nepal to the rest of the world. We believe in providing our customers with authentic and high quality thangkas so that we can preserve and share this ancient form of art with all the spiritual followers and art lovers alike - all around the world.

Over the three decade period that we have been dealing with thangkas we have been able to collect a wide variety of thangkas numbering in thousands from all over Nepal and Tibet .Ever since the early period of our commencement we were able to collect thangkas of artistic genius such as Late Mr. Siddhimuni Shakya whose work has no parallel in the world .However we also understand that all our clients although possessing the desire and want to own works of master artists don’t have the ability to spend accordingly. So, we always try to collect as many varieties of thangkas ranging from average to very high quality so that each of our client can find something that they like which they can afford .

There are yet genuine disciples of masters such as Mr. Siddhimuni Shakya’s caliber in Nepal and we are very proud and honored to have been able to follow and keep our trend of being the collector’s and sellers of masterpieces of master artists still today too. Mr.Man Bahadur Lama who is regarded as the most prominent and innovative artist of today’s day and period has trusted and honored us by allowing us to keep and share his masterpieces with the rest of the world. He has been able explore his talent not only in the Tibetan form of art but into the Japanese form of art too. His Japanese mandala set or Kongo-kai mandala set are of exceptional quality and very authentic.

We have also been able to cater to the needs of many Buddhist Spiritual followers by helping them make special thangka paintings which they require for their meditation practice. We use our extensive sources and knowledge while preparing these special orders because we understand and value the importance of these special thangkas to our clients as a result of which we have many satisfied customers in the different part of the globe.

Amazed by their customer service and collection. Would definitely recommend them to everyone

Really Great Customer Service and very beautiful thangka collection.

This is a magnificent piece of Buddha Shakyamuni thangka. Masterfully executed in rich, vibrant colors with illuminating detail; The silk brocade frame compliments the painting beautifully and forms a focal point in our praying/meditation room I receive the piece earlier than expected in good shape; and prior to purchase, Rajendra was responding quickly and very helpful in providing high resolution picture for my further evaluation. Thank you Rajendra and surely I will be back again.

I was extremely pleased with the quality of the unique thangka I received, as well as the immaculate brocade. Communication with Ritual Thanka has been a pleasure, and shipping was faster than I could have hoped for. Six stars! :)
