Description

Newari Style Thangka Painting of Green Tara :

Green Tara, a female Buddhist deity, is linked to enlightened activity and abundance. She is widely regarded as a compassionate and action-oriented Bodhisattva or Buddha, a protector who comes to one's help to alleviate physical, mental, and spiritual suffering.

According to the legend Tara is an emanation of Chenrezi, the Bodhisattva of Compassion. Once when Chenrezi was very moved by the suffereing of all sentient being, he shed two tears. The tear from his right eye turned into the green form of Tara and the tear from his left eye turned into the white form.
