Description

HandPainted Thangka Art Of Milarepa, Buddhist Master:

Milarepa Buddha, Tibet's most renowned and accomplished Buddhist master, is shown here. He is pictured seated on animal skins in mountain caves, meditating between the cooking pot and a lovely deer. In a listening gesture, his right hand is lifted to his right ear while his left hand holds a skull cup. The cave is surrounded by beautiful green trees and clouds, which gives the practitioner a pleasant vibe.

Milarepa's life-story is famous in the Tibetan culture, and retold many times. The best-known biography, The Life of Milarepa, written by Tsangnyön Heruka (1452–1507) in the fifteenth century and drawing from older biographies, is still very popular. Most of the present-day stories on Milarepa come from this single source, with oral lineage predominating this as well as relics including his bear skinned coat. While "very little [is known] about him as a historical person at all," Milarepa is venerated by all Tibetan schools "as an exemplar of religious dedication and mastery," and his life story established the lineage of the Kagyu sect and its key figures.

I visited the premises in Boudha in person. Its not just next to the stupa like many shops but a little way away and easy to find with Googlemaps - just ask locals when you get there as they didn't have an obvious sign, at least when I visited. They have modern studios, workshops and a salesroom all in the same buildng. Bipin was very helpful and I examined several bhavacakra thankas before settling for a beautifully detailed one. The brocade was added in a day or two and the final thanka was delivered to my hotel very carefully and robustly packaged. I was very happy with the thankas I bought and very happy with the service, Definitely recommended!
