This magnificent traditional portable prayer wheel is constructed of gold and silver plating, and filigreed copper. A metal "life tree" with thousands of mantras wound around it is at the center of the cylinder. The prayer wheel, which dates back to the fourth century, is a tangible representation of the term "spinning the wheel of Dharma," which explains how the Buddha taught. According to the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, spinning a prayer wheel has the same meritorious effect as vocally repeating the prayers, based on historical scriptures.
